Why a gate counts as machinery

Once a gate is powered, it becomes a machine that moves a heavy object through a space people use. Any of these is worth a force test and safety check, and none of them is a reason to panic: the gate closes harder or faster than it used to; it does not reverse when it touches something; photocells are dirty, misaligned or clearly missing; a hinge or roller is noisy or has visible play; nobody living there knows where the manual release key is; there is no paperwork at all.
