The Headland takes the worst of it
Nowhere on Teesside tests gate hardware like the Headland. Salt-laden wind straight off the North Sea corrodes standard fixings quickly and loads any solid panel hard. Specification here is not negotiable: aluminium or galvanised-then-coated steel, stainless fasteners, sealed control enclosures mounted out of the spray, and an open infill that lets the wind through. Motors are sized with headroom rather than to the minimum rating.
Seaton Carew and the marina
Around Seaton Carew and the marina, plots are mixed: some tight frontages onto busy roads where a sliding gate keeps cars off the footpath, some newer developments with shallow driveways where a bi-parting slider solves the run-back problem. The same coastal hardware rules apply as on the Headland.
Wynyard, Elwick and the wide entrances
The estates at Wynyard and the villages towards Elwick and Hart are the opposite job: generous plots, long set-backs, and openings of five metres and upwards. Those get the full specification, often hardwood or heavy aluminium swing pairs on underground motors with video entry, or a cantilever slider where the drive rises. Prices for those sit at the upper end, £6,000 to £9,500, and they are properly bespoke rather than off a size chart.
Older installations
Hartlepool has a lot of gate automation fitted in the 2000s and 2010s now reaching the age where boards fail and force settings have drifted. A force test and safety check is a sensible annual job, and re-motorising sound gates usually beats replacing the lot.
